Your basic colours might not be black, grey and white

Here at HTDF we are very happy with colors. We love to surround ourselves with it and put it on. Now we HTDF women gradually know a little: Personally, my preferences lie on the cold and clear scale, so does Sofies. Where Louise's colors are on the warm, burnt scale and Signes are more neutral and subdued.

What does it mean then? Yes, basically it means that when we put on a color, the color will either give our skin and eyes a glow - or wash us out.

This is not about what your favorite color is, but about what shade it is.

I can use yellow and so can Louise - but the yellow we choose and which suits us is just very different. Signe, which is neutral in its colors, basically has no extremities in the shade. It is not cold it is not hot but in the middle of it all.

Red is not just red; there is a bright red, a burnt red, a cold red, etc. Colors are a science - but it does not have to be raised to a level where we can not participate.

It's also about trying out, and not being afraid to use colors. My wardrobe is full of clothes in colors and I use both green, purple turquoise, yellow yes I pick from the whole palette, but my clothes are often in bright colors. The colors that all give my skin and eyes glow fit together because they are in the same category. Therefore, I can well put turquoise together with orange, as these are my "base colors", as I see all clear colors as my base colors. It fits together because it suits me and my colors I have in skin, eyes, etc.

I very rarely put black to colors, because I think black pulls all the glow and energy out of colors. I get heavy looking I think because black does not highlight my good sides and natural shades.

It's not because I do not own black or use black - because I do too. When I use black with other colors it is often the neutral colors such as a certain pink or yellow. Often I do not have the neutral colors in blouses or dresses as they wash up against my face. But with a black top, a neutral colored bottom can work.

I also love white along with black, I think it is very beautiful together. I also like to use black in the combination black, white, red.

But I definitely do not see black as a base color. Black is for me never a "safe" choice for the days when I have clothing crises - as I know it is for someone. For me, black is a conscious choice as I have to think carefully about how I wear as it does not lie naturally in my colors.

To me, the base color is more of a shade that suits one; a glow or a scale if you will, more than it is black, gray and white.

Below you see my turquoise set, which I wrote about in my previous blogpost. It’s a basic in my wardrobe.

The orange jersy top and the purple skirt is an example off how different colours with the same bright shade can match.

And last you see how I styles a black skirt. By putting bright colours at the top, closest to my face, to still get my glow and not letting the black “eat” all of it.
