No. 25 Penhouët: Grisettes story
As you may know, all of our patterns are named after cities. I will tell you much more about that soon. But since we have developed these patterns based on Grisette's inspiration and thoughts, it was only right that she should choose names for these patterns. No. 24 Antheuil, the small town, has a unique and magical place in Grisette's heart, and you can read her description HERE.
But No. 25 has an entirely different meaning; just read Grisette's own words here:
Penhouët is a small hamlet in Brittany. This is where I grew up and where I had my first adventures.
My house was bordered on one side by a secret wood where I could build wooden castles and on the other side by a slightly marshy arm of the sea ( "bras de mer" in french) where you could find many species of birds, perched on their long legs. Cradle of my imagination, the tall chestnut trees of the neighboring forests have been the witnesses of a thousand legends and of my passage as a teenager.
Through this pattern I talk about the acceptance of a body and its transition from the status of a child to that of a woman.
There is something wonderful and pure in Grisette's tale of Penhouët. It's the city where she grew up and had her first adventure. The town lays all the foundation stones for the woman she has become today. Therefore, the dress also symbolizes the transition from child to woman. Growing into loving her body, which we care about, and what we think sewing should be about at How To Do Fashion. This dress is suitable for stretch fabric and beautifully compliments the body shapes. It gives acceptance and understanding to your body and is a thank you to it for carrying you on all life's adventures.
I hope you see the same in the dress as we do.
